Tolyqyn er en af de mest interessante bands på den tyske rootsscene lige nu. Bandets lyd tager sit afsæt i et globalt univers med inspiration fra afrobeat, jazzriffs og catchy pophooks. Roland Satterviles vokal lyder som, hvis Jack Johnson og Sting fik en baby. Deres tourneaktivitet i Europa vidner om et band vi kommer til at høre meget mere til i de kommende år. Der er med andre ord lagt i ovnen til en super chilled eftermiddag i solen på Balders Plads med musik i absolut topklasse.

Tolyqyn er Roland Satterwhite (voice, plucked viola), Tal Arditi (guitar) og Rafat Muhammad(trommer). 

This trio has quickly gained a reputation as one of Berlin’s best live acts and has been invited back to stages across Berlin, Germany, England, Switzerland and the Netherlands. 

But this is not just any band: Satterwhite has developed a unique style of plucking the viola, which allows him to inflect the band’s music with the sounds of West Africa, rock, folk, funk and the music of the Maghreb. Satterwhite’s virtuosic viola grooves and Sting-like crooner voice are complimented by the electrifying and totally improvised solos of Tal Arditi. The dynamic duo are supported by prodigious drummer, Rafat a classically trained percussionist who has been a touring musician from the age of 14. 

The three sonic explorers fly effortlessly between influences like Led Zeppelin, the Doors, Fatoumata Diawara, Tinariwen and the Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band. You will not be able to peel your eyes away from the stage as the three musicians celebrate each other’s mastery in a thrilling live show.
